Athletics Programs at St. Anthony

St. Anthony offers a wide variety of athletics programs  for its students and for the parishioners of St. Anthony Church who do not attend St. Anthony School (if they do not play for their own school). St. Anthony's teams participate in the New Albany Deanery Sports Program.

Sports programs can be a positive formative experience in the lives of our youth. Students develop physically, emotionally, and spiritually in an environment that encourages them to strive for their best. In the end, winning has nothing to do with an an individual's or team's win-loss record.

Players, their families, coaches, and volunteers must comply with all Deanery Athletics Rules and Regulations, which have been designed to protect the safety of youth and the integrity of the sports programs.

Requirements for Players

Parents of players must pay an annual $40.00 registration fee (a one time annual fee no matter how many sports the players participate in during that year, to a maximum of $80.00 per family if more than two children participate) and complete a sports registration form. They must also have on file a current IHSAA pre-participation and physical evaluation form completed by a physician in order to practice and play. This is the only physical form accepted by SAS athletics. Your child will not be able to practice until the physical forms are turned in--no exceptions.  Physicals are good for one year.

Parents must also read the uniform deposit policy and pay a uniform deposit fee of $50.00 (or in the case of financial difficulty sign a waiver of uniform deposit form) if their children are participating in cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, football, soccer and track. The fee (or form) is due at the time uniforms are distributed. Parents will receive their full deposit back when the complete uniform is turned in, washed, and deemed to be in good condition.  Unless other arrangements are made, uniform turn in day will be the same as picture day.

Volunteers

The number and variety of sports programs that can be offered depend upon the number of volunteers willing to help. Coaches, assistant coaches, referees, committee members, bookkeepers, and team coordinators are all needed. For home games, there must be sufficient volunteers to take care of set-up, score/possession table, admissions, concessions, clean-up, and so on. For St. Anthony parishioners this may be recorded as "volunteer time."

Interested in coaching? Fill out a coaching application and a New Albany Deanery criminal background check form (St. Anthony pays the cost for this), and attend a Deanery Coaches Program and Virtus Training (required by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis).

Athletic Awards

Every player receives awards from the Athletic Committee for each sport played.

In fifth through eighth grades players earn the "A" letter, pin(s) of the sport(s) played, and bars to go on jackets. In third and fourth grades players receive awards, such as trophies, medals, and plaques, for their respective sports.  Athletic letter jackets may be purchases at the athlete’s expense through Kratz Sporting Goods.

The Athletic Committee hosts banquets at the end of each season with a pitch-in family-style dinner to recognize players and volunteers. The Fall Banquet in November recognizes those participating in volleyball, cheerleading, and football. The Spring Banquet in May  recognizes those participating in basketball, cheerleading, soccer and track.

Athletic Committee

The St. Anthony Athletic Committee, which meets one each month, manages all athletics programs at St. Anthony. Committee members for the 2008-2009 school year are listed below. Feel free to contact them if you have any questions or want to volunteer your time.
