Ms. Morgan Futter (Music)

E-Mail

I am a lifelong music enthusiast, having studied piano for over 25 years.  My elementary years were filled with varying genres of piano, voice, flute, dance, and theatre, while junior and senior high school enveloped performances and contests.  I received my Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University with a focus in piano performance, and have been teaching piano and voice for over 10 years.  I received my Master of Business Administration from the University of Louisville, and plan to pursue a Doctorate in music.  My hobbies include camping, traveling, snowboarding, gardening, reading, and joining with other musicians in worship.

“Music is everywhere; it is in the background sounds of everyday life.” – John Cage

About Me

Educational Statement

Arts are inseparable from the very meaning of the term “education”.  The National Standards for Arts Education acknowledges that the arts are a core subject, as important to education as English, math, history, science, and geography. My classroom curriculum is based on the specific objectives set forth nationally of what students should know and be able to do in music at each specific grade.

Kindergarten - basic rhythm and pitch variation.

1st  – easy rhythm, pitch identification, and dynamic

2nd – easy to intermediate rhythm, basic note values, and treble clef notes, understanding melody

3rd – intermediate rhythm, intermediate note values, both clef notes, and understanding harmony

4th – combine rhythm, note values, and note reading on the recorder

5th – music notation, composition skills

6th – basic sight reading and ear training skills

7th – instruments and cultural music

8th – music history (style, attributes, and composers)

I strive to provide a knowledgeable, unique, safe, unifying, and fun environment for music education.  For some children, music may be the only area in which the student feels talented and successful, changing the whole perception of self and self-esteem.

“Education in music is most sovereign, because more than anything else, rhythm and harmony find their way into the secret places of the soul.” - Plato
